Naidu meets PM in Delhi, submits wish list on AP development

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday and is understood to have sought a special package for rebuilding Andhra Pradesh with a focus on developing Amaravati as a people’s capital, expedite construction of Polavaram irrigation project and release grants to pending infrastructure projects.
This was his first meeting with the Prime Minister and other Ministers in the Union Cabinet including Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Piyush Goyal after took over as the Chief Minister. He was accompanied by Finance Minister P Keshav, Water Resources Minister N Ramanaidu and others along with Union Minister for Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu.
The Chief Minister also had a meeting with Dr Arvind Panagariya, Chairman, 16th Finance Commission. TDP is a key partner of the BJP, contributing the largest contingent of 16 Lok Sabha members, followed by 12 from Nitish Kumar-led JD (U) to the NDA Government at the Centre.
Though what transpired at his meeting with Modi, which lasted for nearly 20 minutes was not immediately known, sources said the Chief Minister reportedly apprised the PM of the critical financial situation in AP. The fiscal deficit as on March 31, 2024 was estimated at Rs55,817 crore with the debt in the erstwhile government rising to Rs4.42 lakh crore as on March 31, 2023. The AP Government has already released white papers on Amaravati and Polavaram claiming the damage done by the YSRCP regime due to alleged financial mismanagement and wrong priorities.
In a post on X (formerly twitter), Naidu said “today I had a constructive meeting with the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi ji, in Delhi to address important matters concerning welfare and development of AP.
